At Turning Point USA’s 2023 America Fest in Phoenix, Arizona, Editor-in-Chief of The Post Millennial, Libby Emmons, sat down for a panel discussion on independent media with Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow, Epoch Times senior investigative reporter Joshua Phillip, and Breitbart politics editor Emma-Jo Morris to discuss independent news and "telling the truth in the age of censorship."

Marlow led the discussion explaining the motivations of the corporate media and how they line up with special interests instead of fulfilling the role of reporting news for the American people. He then addressed the censorship Breitbart dealt with when Trump became US President in 2016.

“They’re going to erase our movement online, that was their goal,” Marlow told the audience about a video report Breitbart published about Google executives. “And they used Breitbart as the guinea pig.”

Traffic to Breitbart went down 99.7 percent from Google, Marlow said about Breitbart’s traffic from the search engine

Other panelists then shared their own censorship experiences.

Morris, whose notable report of the Hunter Biden Laptop story was censored, told the panel about her experience when it broke at the New York Post. It was shared by multiple corporate journalists, who later apologized when it was censored by Twitter and other social media outlets.

Phillip touched on his experiences at the Epoch Times reporting on the origin of Covid-19 where evidence in a documentary the outlet put together suggested the virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

“They censored the heck out of it,” Phillip said. On Facebook, Phillip said the platform censored the documentary by labeling it “sexually explicit” even though the documentary graphic was a photo of Phllip’s face.

Emmons then turned the discussion from censorship to the topic of manipulative language in the corporate media.

“It's not just censorship that's the problem, but the intentional manipulation of language to redefine reality,” Emmons told the panel. Some examples she gave included transwoman, anti-racist, and social justice.

“All of these words have been basically invented by corporate media, academics, [and] activists,” Emmons explained. “Their entire point is to eradicate our perception of reality.”

Explaining a headline from NBC that read, “Senate staffer alleged by conservative outlets to have had sex in a hearing room is no longer employed,” Emmons simplified it down and said, “A Senate staffer who had gay sex on camera in a Senate hearing room has been fired.”

“NBC is a real master of this,” Emmons continued. “They recently put out a story about this mom who is really worried that she's gonna have to move her family out of Florida, because they think they're gonna prevent her from giving her child life-saving drugs.”

“What she means is ‘I can no longer sex change my child in the state of Florida and I’m upset about that.'”

The panel then also touched on the effects that NewsGuard has had on conservative outlets.

Morris explained, “NewsGuard is - basically they call themselves a watchdog. But they're staffed with people who are from the security state, who just seamlessly transitioned into being moderators of news and editorial in America.”

“They just decide based on their opinion as experts, the same experts who told you that the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, what's true and not,” Morris continued. The organization flags what it calls “propaganda or hoax sites” which can then affect the ability of news organizations to advertise and generate revenue.

“I think that it's really incumbent on Americans to be aware of what the narratives are and to push back against them, to not use the language that is being forced on you,” Emmons said.

“Then I think that we have a path to victory and a path to saving this country from the people who would destroy it, destroy reality.
