Update: The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News that Ronald Lee Syvrud was taken into custody at 2:30 pm local time without incident. Charges are pending.

A manhunt is underway in Arizona for a convicted sex offender who allegedly threatened to kill 2024 GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. Police believe the man is on the loose in the area of the southern border Trump spoke at Thursday.

Sheriff Mark Dannels of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said that Ronald Lee Syrvud has several outstanding warrants for his arrest, including for a DUI in Wisconsin and a hit-and-run in Arizona. He is also being sought for failing to register as a sex offender.

Syvrud is described as being 6 feet tall and 220 pounds with white hair and green eyes and wears glasses. He is 66 years old and his last known address was in Benson, AZ. Wisconsin’s sex offender registry states that Syvrud and added to the registry on April 6, 2001, after he was convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child. His registration is listed as being for life, and has a slew of aliases.

"Public Safety consideration: Syvrud is being sought as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate," Dannels wrote. According to the New York Post, the presidential candidate in question is Donald Trump.

Trump visited Sierra Vista, Arizona, which lies in Cochise County, Thursday to "inspect the southern border and to meet with the victims whose loved ones were attacked and murdered by illegal aliens set free into America by Comrade Kamala Harris."

On X, going by the known alias "Rudy Lee," Syvrund posted about his distaste for conservatives and Trump. "Keep drinking your radical right wing 'orange' koolade," one post stated.

In response to a post by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene stating "I stand with Steve Bannon, Syvrud wrote, "You are blind."

In a Facebook comment posted Wednesday evening, Syvrud wrote, "tRump is going through here tomorrow and going to Naco, AZ to the port of entry to Mexico. There's a bar right there called the Gay 90s. Noooo. It's not a gay bar. Dawn and I will be there early. I bought a scope for my 44 revolver. Unlike that dweeb that missed. I won't. Maybe I'm joking. .......Or am I. wink, wink." Another post with the text "What Would Jesus Do?" showed the religious figure drowning trump in a body of water.

In another set of posts, Syvrud was seen saying "the shooting was rigged" and "I give the shooter an A- for effort. Would have gotten an A+ if he succeeded. BTW the kid was a registered Republican got to love it," referring to the assassination attempt on Trump at his July 13 rally. In another post, Syvrud claimed that Trump was a sex offender.
