"Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power."
"Today," Pelosi's statement began, "it is with immense pride and limitless optimism for our country's future that I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. My enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris for President is official, personal and political."
"Game over," Charlie Kirk said. "Kamala is the Dem nominee."
Pelosi had been rumored to be encouraging Joe Biden behind closed doors to drop out of the presidential race as concerns over his mental and physical health grew. She joined a number of top Dems who had become convinced, since Biden's debate performance against Trump on June 27, that their best hope of keeping the White House was to find a new person to lead the ticket.
Now it will be up to Democrats to decide who should accompany Harris on the ticket and run for the VP position. Harris spoke at the White House this morning to celebrate the national NCAA athletic champions and in so doing she praised Biden's legacy and record during his first term in office.
Pelosi's statement began by praising Biden's "wisdom and leadership" and ended by praising the diversity of the Party, saying "our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power." She stated that the task at hand now is to "unify and charge forward to resoundingly defeat Donald Trump and enthusiastically elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States."
"Onward to victory!" Pelosi concluded.
