"Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation."
According to a statement from her office from spokesman Ian Krager, "While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation."
The statement did not specify what injury the congresswoman sustained during the event, but the New York Times reported that people close to her said she fractured her hip, confirming earlier reports from Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec, who cited DC officials.
"She may need surgery and she might have broken her hip," Posobiec quoted from his source on Friday.
"Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation's history. Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War Il and their role in bringing peace to Europe," the office added in its statement.
"Speaker Emerita Pelosi was personally and officially honored to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II - including her uncle, Johnny. She looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon," her office added in the statement.
This comes just days after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also got injured when he fell in Congress.
Pelosi, a Democratic representative from San Francisco, California, held the position of House Speaker from 2007 to 2011 as well as a second time from 2019 to 2023 and has held the Democratic whip position in Congress. She has represented San Francisco in Congress for 37 years and is known as one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington DC.
