"I will never apologize for defending America. I will protect our workers. I will protect our jobs. I will protect our borders... I will protect the birthright of our children to live in the richest and most powerful nation on the face of the earth."
During the rally, Pennsylvania steelworkers took the stage to endorse Trump, applauding the former president and saying he “saved the steel industry with tariffs.” The workers presented Trump with a white hard hat which had his name displayed on it. Trump accepted the gift and put it on to the applause of the crowd.
Trump emphasized to the crowd that should he be elected president once again, he will defend the country and protect US workers.
"I will never apologize for defending America. I will protect our workers. I will protect our jobs. I will protect our borders... I will protect the birthright of our children to live in the richest and most powerful nation on the face of the earth,” Trump promised.
Trump opened his speech by asking the crowd if they were better off now than they were four years ago, echoing former President Ronald Reagan's famous quote. The crowd immediately responded with a resounding “No!”
The GOP nominee then criticized the Biden-Harris administration for its failures such as high inflation and foreign policy. Trump promised that if he wins in November, America will enter a new "Golden Age."
“100 years from now, the presidential election of 2024 will be looked upon as America's greatest victory,” Trump declared, pledging plans to end inflation, bring jobs back to the US, and immediately secure the southern border.
"We will restore our safety,” Trump continued. “And we will unlock the magnificent destiny that is just within our reach, and I am asking you to be excited about the future of our country again.”
Trump senior advisor Jason Miller explained that the GOP nominee’s Saturday rally was expected to be the start of his closing arguments for his candidacy in the last two weeks of the race.
“Today’s remarks I do think are important because it’s the beginning of that framing,” Miller told reporters, according to CNN. “The Madison Square Garden event that we have a week from tomorrow will be the formal introduction of the closing debate that we’re gonna have here, the closing framing of this race, the choice between the two candidates.”
