Officers were observed walking behind Guthrie’s residence and using a long pole to probe what appeared to be a manhole or water drainage opening.
Law enforcement investigators were seen examining a manhole or drainage area near the Tucson home of Nancy Guthrie as the search for the missing 84-year-old woman continues.
According to a report by Fox News, officers were observed walking behind Guthrie’s residence and using a long pole to probe what appeared to be a manhole or water drainage opening. Footage obtained by the outlet showed investigators poking around the area, suggesting they were searching for potential evidence.
The activity comes as searches related to the case have expanded in recent days. On Saturday, investigators also searched the home of Annie Guthrie. Several hours after the family released a video on social media, investigators arrived at Annie Guthrie’s residence. The outlet further reported hearing clanking noises and seeing flashes of light inside the home that appeared to be a camera taking photographs. At one point, something was placed over a window, apparently to prevent the media from seeing inside.
Agents were later seen leaving the home wearing latex gloves, while others carried a brown paper bag and a folding table, indicating that evidence might have been collected.
Despite this, law enforcement has said it does not officially have a person of interest at this time.
“The Nancy Guthrie investigation is ongoing. Follow-up continues at multiple locations. No suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles have been identified. No scheduled press briefings. If any significant developments occur in the case, a press conference will be called,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement on Sunday.
The Sheriff’s Office has not held a press conference since Thursday, leaving many questions unanswered. The agency has also faced backlash after reports surfaced that Sheriff Chris Nanos was spotted at a basketball game Saturday night while the search remained ongoing.
The search continues for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie. She was reported missing by her family from her Tucson home on January 31 after being dropped off earlier that day. Investigators believe she was taken sometime during the night. Blood found at her home was later confirmed to be hers, and her doorbell camera was discovered to have been removed.
Local media outlets have reported that alleged abductors have sent statements to news organizations, though details remain limited. Tucson ABC affiliate KGUN9 reported that it received a ransom note demanding $6 million in bitcoin. TMZ has also reported receiving a ransom note demanding bitcoin, while local outlet KOLD reported receiving a statement that investigators said included details only the abductor would know.
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance.
