BREAKING: Police injured after sniper attack from New Jersey rooftop

Both officers were transported to a nearby hospital where they are expected to survive their injuries.

A gunman opened fire from a rooftop on two police officers in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday afternoon, seriously injuring both officers.

The suspect, armed with a rifle, fled to the rooftop of a nearby building and has not yet been caught.



Freedom News reported that one officer was shot in the neck and was in critical condition upon arrival at a local hospital. 

According to Daily Mail, the two police officers had been serving a warrant to a home at approximately 2 pm when the gunman began shooting directly at them, injuring one in the neck and another in the leg. Both officers were transported to a nearby hospital where they are expected to survive their injuries.

The shooting took place in a largely residential in Weequahic, New Jersey, close to the intersection of Van Velsor Place and Chancellor Avenue. According to law enforcement officials, the surrounding area has been locked down and police a believed to have the suspect surrounded in a building within the locked down zone.
