President Biden announced today that, effective May 4, travel from India to the United States will be restricted. The US president made the decision amid rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in India.

According to the Financial Post, the decision was made after advice from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, who stated that it was the right move "in light of extraordinarily high COVID-19 case loads and multiple variants circulating in India."

The policy will prevent "most non-U.S. citizens from entering the United States", reports the Post.
