Iowa held the first-in the nation caucus of the 2024 election cycle.
Iowa held its caucus on Monday evening, starting at 7 pm local time, the first of its nation to do so. After around 30 minutes of voting, Trump is projected to win the state’s Republican nomination.
NBC projected Trump to win with less than one percent of the vote in, as did the New York Times and Reuters.
In a final poll before the caucus conducted by NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll, Trump had a commanding lead over his next-highest challenger, bringing in 48 percent support among likely Republican caucusgoers, compared to 20 percent of support Nikki Haley received.
The New York Times estimates that Trump will finish the evening with 53 percent of the final vote, and Haley with 21 percent. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is estimated to finish with 18 percent of the vote, Vivek Ramaswamy with 7 percent, and Asa Hutchinson with just 1 percent.
CNN projected Trump to win after just 30 minutes, with Jake Tapper stating that "this is the earliest I can remember ever calling such a thing."
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
