President Trump announced Wednesday evening that both Israel and Hamas have signed off on the first phase of a plan to bring peace to the middle east.

In a post to Truth Social, Trump said "I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!"

Earlier today, there were indications that a peace deal was imminent, after Secretary Marco Rubio handed President Trump a note during a roundtable of Antifa domestic terrorism. “I was just given a note by the Secretary of State stating that we’re very close to a deal in the Middle East,” Trump said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week accepted a 20-point proposal from the United States that calls for a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip in return for the release of all 48 remaining hostages. 21 of those hostages are believed to still be alive.

Hamas released a statement: "We call on President Trump, the guarantor countries of the agreement, and all Arab, Islamic, and international parties to compel the occupation government to fully implement the terms of the agreement and not allow it to evade or delay the implementation of what has been agreed upon."

Netanyahu said this was "a great day for Israel" while adding that his cabinet will meet Thursday to approve "the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home."

The talks came two years after Israel began its military campaign in Gaza, launched in response to the October 7, 2023, assault in which Hamas-led militants killed roughly 1,200 people and took 251 hostages.
