Two former senior executives of the Quebec-based SNC-Lavalin and SNC-Lavalin Inc. have been charged by the RCMP, according to a statement released Thursday.

The statement says that former vice-president Normand Morin and Kamal Francis have been arrested, and later released.

The charges include "fraud against the government, fraud, forgery and conspiracy," and follows a "lengthy and comprehensive criminal investigation by the National Division RCMP Sensitive and International Investigations section."

"This was a lengthy and highly complex investigation, and I'm proud of the consistent and professional work of our team," said Inspector Denis Beaudoin of the National Division RCMP Sensitive and International Investigations section.

"As a result of their continued dedication, evidence was identified and gathered over a number of years, which has ultimately resulted in the charges announced today."

Charges are related to “bribes that were paid in exchange for obtaining a contract,” according to the RCMP.

Charges will be tested in a Montreal court on September 27.
