A motion earlier on Saturday narrowly passed to allow witnesses in the Trump impeachment proceedings. This was later reversed in a last-minute deal between the appropriate parties.

A motion earlier on Saturday narrowly passed to allow witnesses in the Trump impeachment proceedings. This was later reversed in a last-minute deal between the appropriate parties.

Instead of calling any witnesses, a statement was read into the record, and the trial proceeded to closing arguments.

According to the Daily Wire Michael van der Veen, one of the Trump attorneys, said that if witnesses were allowed to be called, he was more than ready.

"I’m gonna’ slap subpoenas on a good number of people. I’m gonna’ need at least over 100 depositions, not just one."

"If you vote for witnesses, do not handcuff me by limiting the number of witnesses I can have. We should close this case out today."

"If you want a delay, it will be a long one with many, many witnesses. It is my firm belief that the House Managers are trying to investigate the case AFTER it was brought to the Senate. It is better for the country to go to a final vote," said Sen. Lindsey Graham.

It appears that the Impeachment Managers in the Senate have agreed with the above sentiments, due to the deal which was struck for neither side to introduce any witnesses going forward.
