Kris Kristofferson, the acclaimed actor and country singer-songwriter, has died at the age of 88. Surrounded by his family, Kristofferson passed away peacefully in his Maui home on Saturday, according to a family representative.

In a statement to People magazine, Kristofferson’s family said, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home. We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.”

Kristofferson was renowned for his timeless compositions, including hits like "For the Good Times," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," and "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down." In addition to his musical legacy, he made a significant impact as an actor, notably his lead role starring in the 1976 film A Star Is Born. Kristofferson was also known for his appearance in the Blade trilogy. 

Before his career in entertainment, Kristofferson served as a helicopter pilot in the US Army, achieving the rank of captain. He was stationed in West Germany during the 1960s.

Kristofferson has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including three Grammys, an Oscar nomination, and a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2014. He is also a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
