Jordan has also "offered Scalise to give a nominating speech on his behalf."
Rep. Steve Scalise is reportedly unable to get the 217 votes needed to win the House Speaker position in the upcoming floor vote, and may drop out of the race as soon as Thursday, opening up the door for Rep. Jim Jordan, who narrowly lost the GOP nomination for House Speaker on Wednesday, to reenter the race.
Sources told Newsmax that Scalise will not be able to get the 217 votes needed to win speaker, and that he is expected to drop out of the race as soon as Thursday.
Jordan was reportedly urging his colleagues to back Steve Scalise for the role, and has offered to nominate Scalise during the House floor vote on the matter, seeking unity of party what is a difficult time.
A source with direct knowledge of the matter told Fox News that Jordan is encouraging his supporters in Congress to rally behind Scalise, who needs 217 votes to win the role.
Jordan has also "offered Scalise to give a nominating speech on his behalf" during the House floor vote, a senior GOP source told Axios.
Scalise won in a 113-99 vote, but some Representatives have stated that they would vote for Jordan during the House floor vote, including Marjorie Taylor Greene.
"I like Steve Scalise, and I like him so much that I want to see him defeat cancer more than sacrifice his health in the most difficult position in Congress," Greene wrote after Scalise won in a 113-99 vote. "I lost my father to cancer and it’s a very serious battle."
"We need a Speaker who is able to put their full efforts into defeating the communist democrats and save America. We must stop funding foreign wars - Ukraine. We must stop the weaponized government and hold them accountable. We must secure our border. We must protect our kids."
"And we need a full leadership team dedicated to this fight in these unprecedented times."
Jordan has also received continued support from Reps Carlos Giminez, Chip Roy, Lauren Boebert, Bob Good, Nancy Mace, and George Santos.
Continued support for Jordan means the floor could face multiple rounds of voting to elect a speaker, reflecting January’s 15 rounds of voting it took to get now-ousted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy elected, with names like Jim Jordan coming up in the multiple rounds of voting.
