In a statement posted to X on Wednesday, Detroit Police Chief James E. White announced that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the murder of Samantha Woll, the president of the city’s Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue.

"As part of my continuing commitment to transparency in this matter, I am sharing with the community that a suspect has been taken into custody for the murder of Samantha Woll," White said in a statement posted X.

"While this is an encouraging development in our desire to bring closure for Ms. Woll’s family, it does not represent the conclusion of our work in this case.

"The details of the investigation will remain confidential at this time to ensure the integrity of the important steps that remain," the statement continued. "Investigators will be continuing their work with the Wayne County Prosecutors Office until the conclusion of this investigation."

40-year-old Woll was found outside her Lafayette Park residence unresponsive on Oct. 21 at 6:30 a.m.

According to Fox News, police believe that she was stabbed inside her house sometime after 12:30 a.m., stumbled outside, and collapsed to the ground where she was later found.

White said in an October press conference that there were no signs of forced entry, and that Woll had her phone and ID with her. He would not provide a possible motive.
