"What bothers me about Tim Walz is the stolen valor garbage," JD Vance said at a campaign rally earlier in the day.
Landing in Eau Claire, Wisconsin Wednesday afternoon, Kamala Harris’ new vice presidential pick Tim Walz dodged reporters’ questions about his stolen valor.
One reporter shouted as Walz greeted people outside Air Force Two, "Vance has accused you of stolen valor. Your response?"
Walz ignored the question, continuing to shake people’s hands on the tarmac. The reporter shouted the question once again, which Walz ignored, walking away with Harris.
The White House similarly dodged questions on the topic, referring reporters to the Harris campaign and saying Walz’s "bio speaks for itself," noting that he joined the National Guard at 17 years old.
While taking questions from reporters at a rally in Detroit Wednesday, Vance said that "as a Marine who served his country in uniform when the United States Marine Corps, when the United States of America asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did it. I did what they asked me to do, and I did it honorably," according to Fox News.
"When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, you know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him, a fact that he's been criticized for aggressively by a lot of the people that he served with."
Noting a video posted by the Harris campaign in which Walz stated that he used guns in war, Vance said, "[Walz] said, 'We shouldn't allow weapons that I used in war to be on America's streets.' Well, I wonder, Tim Walz, when were you ever in war? When was this? What was this weapon that you carried into war, given that you abandoned your unit right before they went to Iraq, and he has not spent a day in a combat zone? What bothers me about Tim Walz is the stolen valor garbage."
