Jared Polis commuted her sentence on May 15.
Polis commuted her sentence on May 15. During the 2020 election, Peters was charged with allowing someone to use an election worker's badge to gain access to election equipment involved with the Dominion Voting Systems. At the time, Peters said they were looking for evidence of election fraud.
Polis said of his move to commute her sentence, "She, because of her incorrect and unpopular speech, got an unduly harsh sentence. I’m not pardoning her. I publicly have said very early on I would not even consider a pardon. She’s a convicted felon. She deserves to be a convicted felon. She will remain a convicted felon."
Peters appeared on Bannon's WarRoom show following her release, speaking about her experience in prison. She spoke about prison reform, saying that there needs to be more effort in rehabilitation for those in the prison system.
When Bannon asked her about what it is like to be free, she said that it was terrible to loser her liberty after being sentenced. "It's been quite the ordeal, but I really want to thank God for His faithfulness and for getting me through it," Peters added.
Polis has faced criticism from his own party for commuting her sentence and he was formally censured on May 20 after 800 Democrat signed a petition over the decision.
"She committed a crime. What's an issue here is how long the sentence is," Polis said in a recent interview with 9 News. “I agree with the appeals court that in the sentencing hearing, the judge incorrectly looked at and considered her bizarre viewpoints, her speech, and held her speech against her.”
