Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told media Wednesday morning that cabinet was responsible for making the final decision on awarding WE Charity—a youth charity with clear ties to Sophie Gregoire Trudeau—a government contract to administer the student grants, despite the Trudeau's family ties to the charity, that he "did not" recuse himself from the decision.

"We've long worked on youth issues, both as before I got into politics and since I've been in politics as youth critic, getting young people involved in serving their country, recognizing their desire to build a bigger, better Canada, particularly through this time of crisis, is something I believe in deeply," said Trudeau.

The office of the ethics commissioner announced late Friday afternoon that it will be investigating Trudeau for the awarding the $900 million to a charity with close ties to his family.

Trudeau, rather than take responsibility for the charity grant, is instead framing the decision as a passive one made by his cabinet, rather than one that he had direct involvement in.
