Justin Trudeau addressed media again Tuesday in Ottawa to announce new coverage for those who may not have been eligible for the Canada Emergency Relief Benefit (CERB.)
The new, flexible rules for CERB eligibility came after criticism that many Canadians were excluded, including those who have had their hours reduced, and students.
The CERB will cover those whose EI has ended recent, those who earn only "some" income—up to $1,000 a month, and seasonal workers.
Trudeau specified that those who earn less than $1,000 a month can apply, and those whose EI ended since January 1, the CERB is now also accessible.
Wages for essential workers who are making less than $2,500 will also be boosted.
Trudeau said that discussions would continue tomorrow with provincial leaders to ensure this boost happens quickly.
Trudeau said that his government will be working to help post-secondary students and companies who need to pay rent.
When asked about social distancing measures that would forbid Canadians to not chat with their neighbours, even from their drive ways, Trudeau referred to Canada's health guidelines of social distancing and "aggressive" hand washing.
Trudeau was then asked how much Canada funded the WHO, where Trudeau revealed that the funding was in the tens-of-millions of dollars. Trudeau said the figure had recently risen.
When asked about false information released from the WHO on behalf of China and if the WHO has done a good job, Trudeau said that Canada needs to "base ourselves on science and experts," saying that there will be "many reflections" in the coming years on which institutions to trust moving forward.
Trudeau said those reflections would continue in the future, especially as Conservative voices continue to point fingers at the lack of credibility in the WHO.
