President Donald Trump has ordered the National Guard to be deployed in Washington DC as pro-Trump protesters storm the US Capitol.

Protesters stormed the Capitol building Wednesday afternoon as legislators were discussing the certification of the election results. Legislators have since evacuated the Congressional chamber for safety.

President Trump called for law and order over Twitter as protests raged in the nation's capital.

One woman has apparently been shot in the neck or possibly in the chest during the resulting confusion, shortly before 3:30pm. Their condition or the circumstances of the shooting are still not known at this time.

According to Mass Live, the city of Washington DC will be under a curfew starting at 6pm. A statement from mayor Muriel Bowser's office reads:

"During the hours of the curfew, no person, other than persons designated by the Mayor, shall walk, bike, run, loiter, stand, or motor by car or other mode of transport upon any street, alley, park, or other public place within the District."

This is a developing story
