Current DNI Tulsi Gabbard announced in May that she would be stepping down from her post following her husband's cancer diagnosis. "Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026," she wrote in a resignation letter. "My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer." Gabbard said that her husband is facing "major challenges in the coming weeks and months," and added, "At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle."
She later added, "I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and thorough transition over the coming weeks so that you and your team experience no disruption in leadership or momentum. Thank you for your understanding during this deeply personal and difficult time for our family." Gabbard continued, "I will remain forever grateful to you and to the American people for the profound honor of serving our nation as DNI."
Trump announced on Tuesday that Bill Pulte, who Trump has tapped to serve as acting DNI, would be starting the job sooner than planned, taking over the role on June 19 instead of June 20. Trump also said that Pulte would remain as the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and Chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac during his tenure.
This is a breaking story.
