On Thursday evening, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that under a second Trump White House term, companies that receive federal housing subsidies would be required to verify the citizenship or residency status of those looking to rent housing.

"When I return to the White House, we will require that all companies receiving federal housing subsidies to verify citizenship. We’re going to verify citizenship, we’re going to make sure that it’s a legal residency. And as a condition of their rental agreement, they’re going to have to do all of it.

"Taxpayers will not subsidize apartment rentals for illegal aliens, and we will not permit illegals to drive up costs for Americans in need."

This comes as the Biden-Harris administration has seen record-high levels of illegal immigration under their term in the White House. Despite the number of monthly encounters falling in recent months, the 2024 fiscal year could see over 2 million encounters at the southern border, with 1.92 million being recorded as of July, according to US Customs and Border Patrol data. To date, over 8.5 million people have been encountered by authorities crossing the southern border illegally since the beginning of fiscal year 2021, which began in October 2020.

Trump also announced during the same speech that he would end the taxing of overtime. "As part of our additional tax cuts, we will end taxes on overtime. The people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country and for too long, no one in Washington has been looking out for them."

Trump has also vowed to eliminate tax on tips, an economic policy that the Kamala Harris campaign later adopted as well.
