Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said the two people killed were Rhonda Dorgan, who was Dorgan’s ex-wife, and their adult son Aidan Dorgan.
Police on Tuesday identified the victims who were killed and injured in Monday’s shooting at a youth hockey game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Authorities on Monday night had identified the shooter, who killed himself at the scene, as trans-identified male Robert Dorgan, who also went by the name Roberta Esposito.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said the two people killed were Rhonda Dorgan, who was Dorgan’s ex-wife, and their adult son Aidan Dorgan. Rhonda Dorgan died at the scene, while the son died after being transported to a local hospital. Those injured were Linda and Gerald Dorgan, who were the parents of Rhonda Dorgan, as well as family friend Thomas Geruso. All three are in critical care.
Goncalves said the family members were at the event to support a son who was playing in the hockey game for high school seniors. "There was no expectations or any indication that there was going to be any type of violence yesterday at the arena." She said the shooter "had responded to hockey games in the past to watch their son play hockey, and that this was not unusual."
She said that several bystanders at the hockey rink "stepped in" to intervene and were able to subdue the suspect. "At that time, the suspect did reach for a second firearm, and he did inflict a self-inflicted gunshot wound, which is what he succumbed to on scene."
