California high school connects students to LGBTQ center that offers referrals for sex change surgeries

A California high school has been revealed to direct its students to a clinic that helps minors receive referrals to obtain a sex change surgery. 

Photos shared with the Daily Signal showed QR codes placed on posters in the hallway of Newport Harbor High School in the Newport Mesa Unified School District in Southern California. The code took students to "LGBTQ+ Resources," among which was the LGBTQ Center of Orange County’s website. One of the resources included a link to "LGBTQ Affirming Therapy" provided by the center, which connects minors with a therapist who can write a letter of referral for sex change procedures.

Among the resources listed was a link to the LGBTQ Center’s medical referrals page. The page includes a form connecting students to doctors who can prescribe cross-sex hormones and sex change surgeries. Those filling out the form are asked to select what kind of sex change surgery they’re interested in, including "breast augmentation/chest feminization," "top surgery/chest masculinization," "hysterectomy," "phalloplasty," "vaginoplasty," and others.

In 2022, Newport Mesa had proposed a Memorandum of Understanding with the LGBTQ Center to counsel students who are LGBTQ. Parents, however, urged the school board to withdraw it. The school board did, a local mother who spoke to the outlet anonymously said.

The memorandum would have seen the district agree to provide the center with "a list of student referrals, upon request of LGBTQ Center OC staff," and the center help students start Gay-Straight Alliance clubs and conduct LGBTQ+ workshops and training.

Center employees have spoken to the high school’s LGBTQ club during lunch period. One presentation in the spring of 2022 talked about "Trans Health and Wellness," and advertised the center’s children’s groups. One of these groups was the Rainbow Group, which is a "social drop-in group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and allied youth ages 13-18." After this lecture, the speaker reportedly emailed a list of resources to share with students to a district employee.

One mother who spoke anonymously with the outlet said, "I’m in several chats with a lot of moms, and we have had a lot of people pull their kids from the district after finding out all of this stuff, but the district doesn’t care, because they still get your money either way. They don’t care if your kids are there or not."

She said she pulled her kids out of the district after the pandemic and now homeschools them. "There are a lot of parents that are like, ‘Oh, it won’t happen to my kid. It could never happen to my kid’—until it does," she said.
