The “Doctors Protecting Children Declaration,” calls out multiple medical associations by name for promoting harmful gender procedures for minors.
The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) has issued a statement condemning multiple medical associations by name for supporting sex change practices for minors who identify as transgender.
The “Doctors Protecting Children Declaration,” authored by the ACPeds and endorsed by several other medical groups, calls on media organizations to cease promoting practices such as social transition, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for children identifying as the opposite sex.
The statement underscored four key tenets that reject sex changes for minors. These included the fact that sex is dimorphic, recognizing the innate differences between males and females is essential to medicine, relying on gender ideology rather than biological sex differences is flawed, and the importance of medical decisions being grounded in biology and not a person’s feelings or “gender identity.”
The ACPeds also cited numerous studies that reject transgender ideology and prove that sex change interventions for minors is based upon flawed research that can harm the children involved.
"Given the recent research and the revelations of the harmful approach advocated by WPATH and its followers in the United States, we, the undersigned, call upon the medical professional organizations of the United States, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to follow the science and their European professional colleagues and immediately stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex,” the statement read.
“These organizations should recommend comprehensive evaluations and therapies aimed at identifying and addressing underlying psychological co-morbidities and neurodiversity that often predispose to and accompany gender dysphoria. We also encourage the physicians who are members of these professional organizations to contact their leadership and urge them to adhere to the evidence-based research now available,” it continued.
The ACPed’s plea for medical organizations to stop performing sex change interventions on minors comes as more research has said that these practices are based on flawed research and can cause irreversible damage. Despite this, left-wing groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center have labeled medical professionals who fight against sex change interventions for minors that pushes “anti-LGBTQ junk science.”
