Documents from Canada's Department of National Defense and Canadian Armed Forces paint a picture of a military now drenched in critical race theory, genderqueer ideology, and equity.
CAF members were shown a live "drag queen bingo" night, as well as ways to parse out right-wing views. There were also claims that soldiers were recommended to read Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility, reports Cosmin Dzsurdzsa of True North.
The anonymous source who provided the information to True North provided emails and documents sent to military personnel, revealing "woke ideology" in the military.
True North reports that "One DND facilitator’s guide titled Conversations on Defence Ethics: a Defence Team Learning Event invites soldiers to ponder so-called ethically questionable scenarios."
"These practice scenarios largely focus on fictional circumstances involving religious or right-wing CAF members."
One scenario on diversity describes a lesbian staff member who discovered that another staff member was from a "religious denominational community – a known fundamentalist sect of a major world religion with known strident opposition to homosexuality."
"She reads a few of Marielle's comments and posts," the scenario says. "She finds one that says 'I personally believe that marriage can only be between a man and a woman.'" This is of concern to Shirley who does not hide being a lesbian and who believes same sex marriage is a human right. Shirley goes to the director to express her concern and find out what he is willing to do to ensure she is not confronted or misjudged at work.
It is suggested that saying marriage is between a man and a woman could be "form of hate speech," with the slide saying that a private meeting with the employer should be had.
Another fictional scenario depicts a situation where a CAF member is a part of a group called "Canada Patriot."
The hypothetical group claims to be fighting against illegal immigration and radical Islam. "Thousands of association members belong to its private Facebook group," the scenario reads. "Master Corporal (MCpl) Dwayne MacDonald is posted to an Army base close to a small town. He has alerted his chain of command that some CAF members wear Canada Patriot t-shirts to the gym during physical training and to the mall in town when off duty. He interprets the clothing as an expression of anti-immigrant attitudes."
"MCpl MacDonald is asking leadership to explicitly ban the wearing of the t-shirts, both on and off base."
The source said that CAF members are also now able to put pronouns in their email bios, and use "non-gendered French ranks."
The source also provided detail on the Fleet Club Atlantic's hosting of a Drag Queen bingo night, as well as an example where "Rear-Admiral Rebecca Patterson sent soldiers a message asking them to celebrate Gender Equality Week and touted the benefits of 'gender equality initiatives' for 'all gender identities.'"
Gender policy in the Canadian Armed Forces has been present for a few years now. Documents obtained by conservative commentator Aaron Gunn and presented to The Post Millennial reveal that military personnel are no longer allowed to write he or she, but must replace it with they/them pronouns, regardless of an individual’s preferred pronouns.
Issued via Canadian Forces General Message, these changes that deprive a person of their sex based identity in writing are meant to encourage gender diversity. In reports on personnel, no superior will be allowed to use pronouns that designate or refer to a person’s biological sex.
The notice reads: "Based on a recent CAF cultural and normative shift to promote gender diversity and associated inclusiveness, CFPAS [Canadian Forces Personnel Appraisal System] writing policy and guide will also reflect this new reality where sex, gender identity, and gender expression are prohibited grounds of discrimination under the Canadian Human Rights Act. Forthwith the use of gender pronouns such as quote he/his and she/her unquote are not to be used when drafting pers. Members will be referred to by rank and name or by using gender-neutral pronouns such as they/their."
In practice, superiors, who are required to write personnel reports for those who serve under them, will not be allowed to use the pronouns of that person’s choosing if they identify as male or female and use sex-based pronouns. Instead, everyone will be referred to with the accepted gender neutral, plural pronouns of "they, their, them."
