In a startling new Angus Reid poll, 85 percent of polled Canadians have said that they think the Chinese regime has been dishonest or untransparent about the coronavirus pandemic.

This popular backlash against the Chinese regime has come in spite of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's unwillingness to criticize Beijing—ostensibly undermining the foreign policy of our closest allies.

The Canadian public's opinion of China is now at an all time low, with only 14 percent of respondents having a positive view of the country's government. This figure it impressive, considering that 29 percent of Canadians approved of China some six months ago.

The Angus Reid institute put China's tattered reputation down to accusations of a cover up made by US intelligence.

Previously, China's relationship with Canada had deteriorated even before the pandemic after the Meng Wanzhou episode and repeated attacks on Canada's sovereignty.

Despite the prime minister's inaction on the Chinese issue, Canadians overwhelmingly want to loosen trading relations and have expressed cynicism over the construction of Huawei 5G infrastructure.

This Angus Reid study used an online poll that utilized a random sample of 1,518 Canadians. The margin of error is +/- 2.5 percentage points.
