The Speaker of Canada's Senate has ruled that all Senators must be fully vaccinated if they wish to return to in-person sittings.
"As has been the case since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the health, safety and well-being of all parliamentary personnel remains of paramount importance to the Senate," said the Speaker.
The status of Conservative senators is still unknown, however, all other senators have confirmed their status. These rules will come into effect on November 22 which is when the senator will resume proceedings, according to CBC News.
Senators who are unvaccinated, but who possess a medical exemption, will also be allowed to sit in the chamber. It is unclear whether staff will also have to follow these rules.
The Conservative group, which has 18 seats in the Senate, has refused to provide details over the status of their members. This is similar to the Conservative Party in the House of Commons who has also refused to provide this information.
Having said that, Erin O'Toole stated that every MP who enters the House of Commons will be vaccinated.
