Alberta Energy Minister Sonya Savage said that the province's oil industry could help relieve the strain the global supply crisis around energy.

Savage said that Canada could move more oil to the US as oil prices reached $128 per barrel, up from $83 per barrel in January.

"We are the solution, not Venezuela and others," she told Reuters.

Russian oil has been a less desired commodity since the country's invasion of Ukraine two weeks ago. The country has been exporting 4-5 million barrels of oil per day and 2-3 million barrels per day of refined products.

Therefore, said Savage, the US should ban imports of Russian crude oil and look to other sellers, such as Canada.

Canada banned imports on Russian crude oil last week, and as put in place many sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
