CDC director sounds alarm on 'pandemic of the unvaccinated'

The official position of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as we head into the weekend is that COVID-19 is becoming a "pandemic of the unvaccinated."

CDC's remarks comes as the world governments contend with how they're handling the so-called "Delta variant" of coronavirus.

During the Friday news briefing, CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated  "I want to reiterate the importance of getting fully vaccinated.  I want to reiterate that people who got the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are most effective, especially when—against the Delta variant when given as two shots in a series."

"There is a clear message that is coming through: This is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated.  We are seeing outbreaks of cases in parts of the country that have low vaccination coverage because unvaccinated people are at risk.  And communities that are fully vaccinated are generally faring well," Walensky stated.

She insisted that "if you are not vaccinated, you remain at risk." But the CDC's biggest concern is that "we are going to continue to see preventable cases, hospitalizations, and, sadly, deaths among the unvaccinated."

Walensky maintained at the White House presser that the standard set of advice that was at hand even before Delta began showing up.

White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients zeroed in on four states having "more than 40 percent" of all this past week's cases. He said one in five of those cases were coming out of Florida. He reiterated Walensky's line about how vaccinations are effective against the Delta variant.

A main talking point stressed by Dr. Anthony Fauci aligned with what Zients and Walensky stated. The only new thing he had to add to the conversation was that the CDC is still looking at the available research and information as to whether or not "booster shots" will be necessary in the long-term.

Fauci stressed that the question of booster shots doesn't negate the importance of getting vaccinated against the coronavirus. The commentary comes as yesterday Los Angeles County decided to reimpose a mask mandate across the board, meaning everyone whether or not they're vaccinated must comply.

All the meanwhile controversy surrounding the White House working in concert with Facebook pressured to flag what the platform and the Biden administration deem "misinformation" on the vaccination subject. White House press secretary Jen Psaki doubled down on the importance of doing so at today's press briefing.
