Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has postponed a book tour after backlash over supporting a government funding package that was backed by President Donald Trump and the GOP. Schumer, along with several other Democrat senators, voted to pass the package last week.

"Due to security concerns, Senator Schumer’s book events are being rescheduled," stated Schumer spokesperson Risa Heller about the book tour, per NBC News. The book is called, “Antisemitism in America: A Warning."

Protesters were expected at multiple events for the tour after Schumer led the way in allowing for the Senate to pass the funding bill, avoiding a government shutdown and getting the bill to Trump's desk where it was signed into law. CNN reported that chapters of left-wing activist group Indivisible had planned the demonstrations and wrote a letter saying, "Leadership is needed now, and your failure to coalesce your caucus in this critical moment leads us to call for your immediate resignation from your Minority Leader role.”

On the floor of the Senate, Schumer argued that passing the spending package was the best of two bad options. "Musk has already said he wants a shutdown, and public reporting has shown he is already making plans to expedite his destruction of key government programs and services,” Schumer said. “A shutdown would give Donald Trump the keys to the city, the state and the country.”

Schumer said passing the package was "very bad," but added that the "consequences for America that are much, much worse" if a shutdown were to occur. There were reports that some Democrats in the House were pushing to have Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) primary Schumer for his Senate seat. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also avoided questions on the topic when he was pressed over Schumer's decision.

Over the weekend, Jeffries reportedly met with Schumer amid the fallout from passing the spending package.
