A two-month-old petition has found a new set of legs, as frustrated church-goers sign an online petition addressed to Doug Ford, the Liberal Government, the Conservative Party, and the Federal government, encouraging the premier to reopen the province's churches.

"We have the freedom to have the same rights as Lowe's... The hospital... Dollarama... or the bank! We have the same RIGHT to social distance at church!" the petition reads.

As of Monday at 11 am, the petition has surpassed 18,000 signatures. You can view the petition by clicking here.

In mid-May, over 250 churches from across Ford's province signed a letter asking to let them reopen. The message apparently fell on deaf ears, as no action was taken to reopen churches in the weeks that followed.

"We believe that people are more than physical beings. We're spiritual beings, we're emotional beings, we're relational beings," said Rev. Aaron Rock to CBC. "People can't function in isolation, and we're starting to see the cracks in the foundation as people have been isolated now for nine or 10 weeks."
