The Aurora, Colorado apartment complex that was overrun with members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang has been ordered by a judge to close down as it poses an "imminent threat" to public safety. The Edge at Lowry complex, which was taken over by the gang, has been hit with an emergency closure order after there were a number of brutal incidents, including the kidnapping and torture of a couple who lived at the complex.

Judge Shawn Day wrote in the order that 60-unit complex is posing an "imminent threat to public safety and welfare" and will shut down next month. Officials have previously said that the complex taken over by TdA has been "an epicenter for unmitigated violent crimes and property crimes."

Since September 2023, there have been over 60 criminal incidents that are linked to the apartment complex in Aurora. Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said of the complex after the order came down, "the problem is a mismanaged location that allowed this crime to flourish."

Aurora city officials added in a statement, "The city is simultaneously working on a plan with Arapahoe County and other community partners that will provide relocation assistance to established tenants of the 60 affected apartment units."

The incident that brought the apartment complex into the national spotlight was one in which multiple armed suspected TdA members broke into the apartment units. Many residents fled from the complex and in December nine men and women were charged in connected with kidnapping a couple from their home, tying them up, and beating them.

“We are not going to rest until we verify every individual in this incident is in custody, every individual who mistreated another human being the way these victims were treated is in custody and we will use again every resource at our ability to do that. We have proactively been focused on that apartment complex,” the police chief said at the time. There are seven others that are still being investigated over the incident.
