On Saturday, an armed robbery in Commerce City, Colorado took an "unexpected and ironic twist" when the suspects' getaway car was stolen before the group could make off with their loot.

Two of the three people allegedly involved in the initial heist have since been arrested, however, their accomplice and the thief who nicked the vehicle are still at large.

"After three armed and masked individuals robbed the Hi Lo Check Cashing in the 7200 block of Monaco just before 11am," the Commerce City Police Department wrote in a post on Facebook, "officers infiltrated the area and quickly chased down and arrested two of the three suspects.

"In an unexpected and ironic twist: while the trio was robbing the business, a 4th criminal stole their getaway vehicle… which could have already been stolen," the Department posted on X a short time later. "We don't know. If we get a good description, we'll share it here."

The situation amused social media users, one of whom commented on Facebook, "What a plot twist."

"We can't make this stuff up," the CCPD replied.

Another user said they'd "love to see a video of the thieves facial expression when they came out and the car was gone."

The CCPD has urged anyone with information about either of the crimes in question to come forward by contacting Detective Garcia at 303-227-7147.

This is a developing story.
