BREAKING: Lindsay Clancy jury ends day 3 of deliberations with NO VERDICT in murder trial

Day three of deliberations in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother charged with killing her three children, ended without a verdict, with Judge William Sullivan sending the jury home shortly before 4 pm. Deliberations will resume at 9 am on Tuesday.

The jury began its deliberations shortly after noon on Thursday. So far in their deliberations, the jury has requested to see the knife and pill bottles that had been entered into evidence in the case, making the request on Friday afternoon.

Among the decisions being made by the jury are charges of murder versus charges of manslaughter for the killings of her children. The judge instructed the jury on Thursday that they could consider charges of manslaughter if they find that Clancy’s actions were “wanton or reckless,” but not a premeditated murder as required under first-degree murder charges. 

The defense has argued that Clancy was suffering from postpartum mental illness in the wake of the birth of her third child, and that she had been prescribed too many medications and had not received the help she needed. The prosecution, however, has argued that she “was depressed. She was exhausted. She was done. She didn't want to try anymore. She felt damaged. But those kids, those kids were her protective factor. Those kids were keeping her from ending her misery, and so she had to remove the protective factor.” Clancy has admitted to killing her kids. 

Outside the court on Monday, Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, was called a “feminist icon.” Reddington said outside the courthouse that “it’s kind of unusual” to receive the label from Clancy’s supporters.
