A Conservative senator who was appointed by Prime Minister Harper and supported MacKay in the CPC leadership contest has started a petition to review O'Toole's leadership.

Senator Denise Batters wants a leadership review to take place within six months. In the video, Batters said that O'Toole flip-flopped on issues like gun control.

She argued that this was in contradiction to O'Toole's leadership campaign, where he painted himself as a "true blue Conservative." During the recent election, Batters said that O'Toole's platform was "almost indistinguishable" from Trudeau's Liberals.

Batters also suggested that O'Toole can't win the next election. "Winning without principles is pointless. O'Toole’s strategy and approach failed. Conservatives lost seats and votes," she said.

One lobbyist was shocked by Batters' petition, saying "wow. Trying to think the last time a Senator took an aggressive public stand against their party leader."

Batters was a strong supporter of Peter MacKay during the Conservative leadership election. "I was a proud Peter MacKay delegate at the 2003 federal PC Party convention for his successful leadership bid. Now, I’ve again voted for Peter MacKay as my #1 ballot choice for CPC leadership election," wrote Batters on Twitter.

It is unclear how many Conservative members have signed Batters' petition.

Batters previously gained fame for suggesting that Trudeau was enticing Canadians to smoke marijuana through subliminal messaging.
