James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of alleged Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, were arrested on Saturday morning in Detroit, concluding an hours-long manhunt for the pair that involved local police and US Marshalls.

The parents were found "hiding" on the first floor of an industrial or commercial building, about 40 miles south of the Oxford area where the family lives. Police were tipped Friday night that the couple's vehicle was nearby.

"They appeared to be hiding in the building," Detroit Police Chief James White said during a news conference early Saturday. The couple was "very distressed" after the two were detained, the police chief added.

The arrests follow half day after the duo was charged Friday with four counts of involuntary manslaughter over Tuesday's shooting. The couple's 15-year-old son Ethan Crumbley is accused of killing four schoolmates and injuring others.

Two separate virtual arraignments followed via video conference with the judge, defense attorneys, and county prosecutor. Jennifer Crumbley appeared to cry between words, CNN reported, and both pleaded "not guilty" to the charges.

Bail has been set at $500,000 each.

Law enforcement considered the couple fugitives after the pair missed the scheduled Friday afternoon arraignment. As of Saturday morning, they're being held at the Oakland County Jail, where the teen is also detained.

One of the couple's attorneys had earlier stated that the Crumbleys had left town "for their own safety" and intended to turn themselves in voluntarily.

On Saturday morning, their attorneys Shannon Smith and Mariell Lehman issued a statement saying they "understand that our clients were apprehended last night, although we fully intended to turn them in first thing this morning for arraignment, contrary to the misinformation that has been rampant in the media."

The police chief said he didn't know the couple's intentions, but that "this isn't indicative of turning themselves in, hiding in a warehouse."
