Karen McDonald, the prosecutor in the case of the mass shooting at Oxford High School, just north of the Metro Detroit area, is now investigating the possibility of charging the suspect's parents as well.
This is due to the fact that it has been discovered that the weapon used in the shooting was purchased just days prior by the suspect's father, thus bringing up the possibility of an illegal act in the father's failure to properly secure the firearm.
According to the Detroit Free Press, McDonald told them when interviewed, "We know that owning a gun means securing it properly and locking it and keeping the ammunition separate and not allowing access to other individuals, particularly minors. We have to hold individuals accountable who don't do that."
Ethan Crumbley, 15 years of age, has already been charged as an adult with a list of crimes a couple dozen long. They include multiple counts of murder in the first degree and attempted murder, as well as a single count of a terrorism charge, which McDonald herself mentioned was out of the ordinary.
"What about all the children who ran, screaming, hiding under desks? What about all the children at home right now, who can't eat and can't sleep and can't imagine a world where they could ever step foot back in that school? Those are victims, too, and so are their families and so is the community. The charge of terrorism reflects that," explained McDonald.
McDonald then went on to say that "this was not an impulsive act," and that evidence had been compiled to show that Crumbley's actions were pre-meditated.
