After Disney's live-action remake of Snow White tanked at the box office, the company has reportedly decided to put their Tangled live-action project on pause. The company invested $370 million into creating and marketing the Snow White film, but it has only grossed $146.5 million in worldwide sales as of Friday, per Box Office Mojo.

With the likely loss from Snow White, Disney is halting the progress on the Tangled remake, studio insiders told The Hollywood Reporter. Michael Gracey was directing the film and the script was going to be written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

The pause comes as Snow White has done terribly at the box office, and leading up to the film's release was embroiled in controversy before it even hit theatres. Lead actress Rachel Zegler, in particular, made waves because of her political comments.

When Trump won the election, Zegler wrote and then deleted an Instagram post in which she said, "May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace." She also said that the original 1930s film was "weird" and railed against the film for a "big focus on [Snow White's] love story with the guy who literally stalks her. Weird, weird."

She has also said that the film is "extremely dated" with “ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world.” The film is projected to lose Disney approximately $115 million

It is not clear whether or not the project with Tangled will go forward, the outlet reported. Disney has released a number of live-action remakes of classic Disney films such as Aladdin, the Lion King, Cinderella, and other films. Two live-action remakes, Lilo & Stitch and Moana, are set to be released in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
