A new poll shows former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo beating out socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral race if all other candidates drop out. This comes after Mamdani was able to best Cuomo in the Democrat primary earlier this year.

The socialist lags behind Cuomo 41 percent to 52 percent in a head-to-head race with the former governor of the state. If the race were just Mamdani versus New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the numbers get much tighter, with Mamdani getting 45 percent of the vote and Adams getting 42 percent, according to the poll from Tulchin Research. With all candidates still in the race, Mamdani has the lead of 42 percent, followed by Cuomo at 26 percent, GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa at 17 percent, Eric Adams at 9 percent, and Jim Walden at three percent, per CBS News.

On Wednesday, after the results of the poll came out, Cuomo remarked, "That poll is right." When he was asked by reporters if he thought the other candidates should drop out of the race, he did not answer directly, but repeated the phrase, "That poll is right."

Mamdani's spokesperson released a statement in response, "Everybody knows that Andrew Cuomo is Donald Trump's choice candidate for mayor - they share the same billionaire donors, colluded on the race, and Trump himself said the two have 'always gotten along.' Trump knows Cuomo will aid and abet in his authoritarian spirals, serve billionaires and corporations instead of everyday New Yorkers, and continue the corruption that is dragging our city backward."

The poll shows that if voters were to coalesce around one candidate, they could successfully oppose Mamdani. However, the only candidate who has indicated he would be willing to drop out of the race is Walden.
