NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch reportedly told US Attorney General Pam Bondi in a meeting on Monday that the National Guard is not needed in New York City. This comes the crackdown on crime in Washington, DC, which has seen the deployment of National Guard troops, and plans for additional troops in states across the country.

A police source told the New York Daily News that the 30-minute meeting between the two officials covered a wide range of topics, including discussions of the National Guard being sent to the city. Tisch said those troops were not necessary, and that the NYPD has crime issues and public safety under control. The police source said the message was delivered respectively, and the meeting was "all positive and productive."

Trump has mobilized the National Guard in Washington, DC in an effort to crack down on crime, along with federalizing the city's police department. In the wake of these actions, the city has now gone 12 days without a murder. The Trump administration has plans to mobilize the National Guard in 19 states across the country to crack down on crime and assist in immigration enforcement.

The states that will see deployments are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming. The troops will be active in these states from August through mid-November.

Trump has also hinted that other major cities, including Chicago and New York City, would be next to be dealt with. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said recently, in reference to the possibility, "We're going to remain firm. We'll take legal action, but the people of this city are accustomed to rising up against tyranny, and if that's necessary, I believe that the people of Chicago will stand firm alongside of me as I work every single day to protect the people of this city."
