Barstool Sports founder and CEO Dave Portnoy recently sent a direct message to Ford Motor Company on Twitter asking about a new car. The screenshot of the message quickly went viral.
Portnoy tweeted Monday afternoon: "I just dm’d @Ford for a new Bronco. I’ll see how it goes. I’ll pay for it."
The 2021 Bronco that Portnoy is after is a big deal because Ford has not produced a Bronco in 25 years, which is sure to interest enthusiasts of motor vehicles.
The newly manufactured Bronco is primarily built for off-road ventures and is equipped with all the bells and whistles that will allow the owner to stay off the beaten path for a while.
With hits boxy frame, it has some watermarks from the Bronco of days past while still checking off all the safety regulations.
There will be a two-door and four-door option, with the larger Bronco sporting 35-inch off-road tires that will be able to trek through water over three feet deep. It will also be equipped with an "independent front suspension" system that its main competitor, the Jeep Wrangler, does not have. The front suspension also allows for a less bumpy ride and superior handling than a vehicle with a single solid axle.
The two-door and four-door Bronco will come with a removable roof and doors. Buyers will have the option between a hard-top that can be taken off in parts, a cloth top, or both. Buyers will also have the option between a 10-speed automatic or a seven-speed manual transmission, and it will be powered by "a 270-horsepower 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 310-horsepower 2.7-liter turbocharged V6," according to Road and Track.
All of the Bronco models will come a variety of driving modes, referred to as GOAT modes, for "goes over any type of terrain." Fun fact: GOAT was the nickname of the original Bronco while it was still in development.
While it is not unique to the Bronco, it will come with what is called Trail Control—an off-road cruise control that will allow drivers to cruise at low speeds while focusing on steering.
The Bronco Sport will available for purchase later this year and will start at $26,660. The two-door Bronco will go for with the full-size Bronco being made available next spring.
The full-size Bronco will not be available until next spring. The two-door option will start at $28,500 and the four-door will start $33,200.
Ford is currently accepting $100 deposits for the both models.
