"Our own base is telling us that what we're doing is not good enough ... [that] there needs to be blood to grab the attention of the press and the public," one lawmaker said.
A report from Axios details the issue, saying that they spoke to more than 24 House Democrats to gauge the temperature of the Democrat and leftist base. People, apparently, are mad, so mad that they could take action into their own hands.
"What I have seen is a demand that we get ourselves arrested intentionally or allow ourselves to be victims of violence, and ... a lot of times that's coming from economically very secure white people," a lawmaker said, per Axios.
In Portland, Oregon, violent Antifa militants have been doing just that by blockading an ICE facility there. Los Angeles has seen riots as well and protests have erupted in New York, Washington, DC, and elsewhere. On the same day that Axios released their story, Border Patrol was ambushed in Texas outside an immigration facility.
"We've got people who are desperately wanting us to do something... no matter what we say, they want [more]," Illinois Rep. Brad Schneider said. Other lawmakers did not give their names when they expressed their constituents' concerns.
Another told Axios "I actually said in a meeting, 'When they light a fire, my thought is to grab an extinguisher,’" going on to say that "someone at the table said, 'Have you tried gasoline?'"
"Our own base is telling us that what we're doing is not good enough," an anon lawmakers told Axios, "[that] there needs to be blood to grab the attention of the press and the public.
Still another said that their constituents were done with "civility" because it "isn't working." That lawmaker reported that their constituents said to prepare for "violence... to fight to protect our democracy."
Another Democrat said, "People online have sent me crazy sh*t ... told me to storm the White House and stuff like that." That Democrat told Axios "there's always people on the internet saying crazy stuff."
Democrats have been speaking out as every branch of the federal government currently has conservative, Republican control. Democrats saw losses with recent Supreme Court decisions and Congressional lawmakers were unable to halt the passage of Trump-backed Big Beautiful Bill.
"It's like ... the Roman coliseum. People just want more and more of this spectacle," said another.
