Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has expressed skepticism over President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportations, claiming that he will backtrack from his promises because farms in the US need "migrant workers."

In an interview with MSNBC, Crockett explained her prediction that Republicans will not materialize their plans for deportations once they evaluate the economic implications. Specifically, she cited the fact that many farmers rely on migrant labor.

"I don’t expect mass deportations,” Crockett said. “When we start to ramp up what the cost will look like for us to actually effectuate this, but then actually look at the cost to our economy, I just don’t really see it happening.”

"As someone who serves on the agriculture committee, I can tell you that I have talked to countless farmers that talk about the need for these migrant workers,” she continued. “So, listen, unless your viewers are planning to send their kids to school so that they can go and work on the farms, then God bless… but the reality is that is not who’s been working the farms in recent years.”

Crockett went on to cite that because a high number of migrants work in jobs like hospitality and restaurants, the institution of mass deportations would negatively impact the nation’s economy.

Trump has repeatedly pledged to implement mass deportations of individuals illegally in the US, particularly those who are committing crimes. Both Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance have echoed these priorities, highlighting public safety concerns.

A report from the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year found that over 600,000 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions or pending charges entered the country under the Biden administration. These convictions included violent crimes such as murder and sexual assault.

Trump’s victory, along with polling data showing widespread support for stricter immigration enforcement, suggests that his administration could take aggressive action to the approval of a majority of Americans.
