Democrat Congressman Seth Moulton brought an illegal immigrant to the State of the Union address on Tuesday as President Donald Trump gave his speech to Congress.

Leading up to the event, the Department of Homeland Security posted on X, "Seth Moulton plans to bring illegal alien Marcelo Gomes DaSilva. Gomes DaSilva is an illegal alien who has no right to be in our nation. We are committed to enforcing the law and fighting for the arrest, detention, and removal of aliens like him."

The chief of staff for Moulton, Neesha Suarez, noticed the post from the State of the Union address, and then escorted Gomes out of the event over fears that he would be taken into custody at the event. Gomes then watched the rest of the speech in Moulton's office. This is despite Gomes consistently being in touch with his ICE officer. The Boston Globe reports that he sent a photo of the State of the Union invite to the law enforcement officer.

“My ICE officer doesn’t believe I’m here. I need to send them a photo of the invitation,” Gomes told reporters on Tuesday.

Suarez said that she was concerned because of the heavy law enforcement presence in Washington, DC that would accompany the speech. Gomes said about the post from DHS, “I can’t believe they still want to chase after me. I’m just disappointed in the ignorance. It’s really inhumane, and there’s a lack of empathy.”

Gomes, originally from Brazil, entered the US on a visa that has since expired. Gomes was previously detained by ICE while driving to sports practice in Milford, Massachusetts. He was later released. At the time, ICE was looking for Gomes' father, who authorities claimed had a history of speeding through neighborhoods at speeds such as 100 mph.
