“The revolution that began in 1776 has not ended."
At various points in the speech, the president recognized different individuals who he said represented the spirit of America. Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Charlie Kirk, was present as Trump’s special guest for the event. He credited Charlie with turning the nation back to Christianity. He highlighted policy priorities, including securing the border, the economy, and cracking down on crime.
Others he honored included the mother of slain Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who became emotional when the president spoke about how she was murdered on a train in North Carolina by a repeat criminal offender.
He also honored George “Buddy” Taggart, a WWII veteran who is approaching his 100th birthday.
President Trump started his speech out speaking about figures related to the security of the border. He said that over the last nine months, there have been zero illegal immigrants admitted into the US. Additionally, he touted that fentanyl flow over the border has dropped by 56 percent.
He also cited figures related to the economy, saying that gas prices have fallen from highs near $6 a gallon in some states to $2.30 in some states around the nation. He also spoke about the business investment that has come into the United States. "The last administration got less than $1 trillion in new investment in the United States, and when I say less, substantially less, in 12 months, I secured commitments for more than $18 trillion pouring in from all over the globe," Trump said about the Biden administration in comparison to his first year in office.
The president touted his record on "ending DEI in America" as well as lifting a record of "2.4 million Americans off of food stamps."
"Our country is winning again. In fact, we're winning so much that we really don't know what to do about it," Trump said. He then talked about the Team USA hockey team that won against Canada in the Olympics over the weekend, introducing the team, who the president had invited to the speech. He also announced that he would be giving the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the goaltender of the team, Connor Hellebuyck.
Trump spoke about how prices on eggs as well as goods such as beef. He spoke about how healthcare prices have surged under Obamacare and said, “I want to stop all payments to big insurance companies and instead give that money directly to the people so they can buy their own healthcare, which will be better health care at a much lower cost.”
The president emphasized that he has also fought for price transparency in the healthcare industry using TrumpRx, a website that offers lower prices for dozens of common drug prices. He then talked about how a couple struggling with infertility turned to the site, and was able to purchase a drug for IVF at less than $500 when the initial cost for them was over $4,000.
The president also urged Congress to pass the “Stop Insider Trading Act,” which would end insider trading in Congress. At the same time, he called out Nancy Pelosi for her stock trading activities.
In addition to the stock trading issue, Trump pushed for a law that will allow for everyday Americans to have 401k matches to their contributions in their retirement accounts, similar to an employer match.
He concluded, “The revolution that began in 1776 has not ended. It still continues because the flame of liberty and independence still burns in the hearts of every American patriot.”
