The rate of deportation of convicted criminal illegal immigrants in the United States has gone down by 74 percent under the Biden-Harris administration. This comes as the border and immigration have become a top concern for Americans over the course of the last few years.

The number of illegal immigrants that have been removed from the United States after being convicted of a crime dropped off after President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office in 2021, according to a new report from the Daily Mail.

Only 134,617 convicted criminal illegal immigrants have been removed from the US over the last three fiscal years of the Biden-Harris administration, this occurred even as illegal immigration hit new heights and border security measures from the tenure of Donald Trump were stymied by executive action from the White House.

The Mail reported that the numbers were compiled by the National Immigration Center for Enforcement in order to come to the conclusion. US Customs and Border Protection figures record that over 10.3 million encounters with illegal immigrants on America's borders in the first three years of the administration, this does not take into account the estimated 2 million “gotaways” that were able to evade Border Patrol, per the outlet.

The drop in deportations of criminal illegal immigrants may present a problem for Harris as she has been attempting to paint herself as a border hawk in recent weeks, going to visit the southern border in order to conduct what the Border Patrol Union called a "photo-op," and has repeated her talking point of prosecuting "transnational criminal organizations" as a prosecutor in California. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has said outright that he believes deportations are bad policy and only a few years ago Harris participated in a protest where she was seen chanting "down, down with deportation."

Just last week, it was reported that there are still hundreds of thousands of convicted criminal illegal immigrants who have crossed the border into the United States uas of July 2024 that have not been deported. The total number of illegal immigrants with criminal history in the US is reportedly over 425,000, according to a letter from ICE Deputy Director Patrick Lechleitner.

These numbers include over 13,000 convicted of homicide, nearly 16,000 that have been convicted of sexual assault, and over 62,000 that have been convicted of assault.

Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) said of the figures, “Under President Joe Biden, and his hand-picked 'border czar,' Vice President Kamala Harris, we don't just have a crisis at our borders—we have one in the interior, as well."
