State capitols have been on high alert due to FBI warnings of armed protesters in the wake of the Jan. 6 riot at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. On Sunday, it became clear that none of those threats materialized.

News reporters and law enforcement were on the scene at state houses across from Florida to Washington state in anticipation of protest activity. Two protests planned for Sunday in Tallahassee did not end up happening.

In an email to the Tallahassee Democrat the Tallahassee Police Department said, "Florida’s Capitol is secure. A unified command is operational with local, state and federal agencies continuing to monitor information regarding possible demonstrations. This collaborative response is out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of citizens and property."

Andrea Clark, a spokeswoman for the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, said that "We continue to closely monitor intelligence and coordinate with our law enforcement partners."

In Olympia, Washington, Gov. Jay Inslee ordered fencing installed around the state capitol campus and 750 National Guard troops to be deployed. This was in response to activity there on Jan. 6 when protestors broke through a gate and marched to the Governor’s Mansion.

One man showed up outside the fence in Olympia. John Hess from Centralia told KOMO News that he plans to stay because he believes the election was stolen. Hess said that a big protest is planned for Wednesday.

The lack of activity appeared to be the norm on Sunday at capitols across the country despite the FBI warnings. The visibly heavier presence of either police or National Guard troops appeared to be enough to keep protestors at bay for now.
