Premier Doug Ford is strongly disagreeing with President Donald Trump’s indications that restrictions at the border between Canada and the U.S. could soon be loosened, according to CTV News.

On Thursday, Ford said, “Trudeau should say no right away.”

“Until we have this under containment, we need to have our borders closed.”

Trump said the Canada-U.S. border will likely be one of the early ones released on Wednesday, after telling Americans that Canada is doing a good job in fighting the virus.

Ontario and the state of New York—which has been hit harder than any other state—share a border.

Over 200,000 coronavirus cases have been reported in the U.S., with 11,500 deaths.

The border has been closed between the countries for close to a month.

“We should have shut down the borders a lot sooner and put better screening at our airports,” Ford said.

“The answer is absolutely not. I don't want them (Americans) in Ontario.”

“I want to put the people of Ontario first.”

On Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that border restrictions will not be relaxed for “a significant amount of time.”

Ford has been outspoken about Trump on such issues before. Earlier in the month, he expressed his disappointment when Trump asked for exports of N95 masks and 3M’s to Canada to be stopped.

“I just can't stress how disappointed I am at President Trump for making this decision,” Ford said at the beginning of April.

“I'm not going to rely on President Trump, I'm not going to rely on any prime minister of any country ever again.”
