White House coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx travelled to one of her vacation homes on Fenwick Island in Delaware with her family one day after Thanksgiving despite warning Americans to avoid travel during the holiday weekend, the Denver Channel reports.

Prior to Thanksgiving, Birx asked Americans to "be vigilant" and to limit contact over the holiday with members of "your immediate household."

Information about her travel plans were leaked to the Associated Press by Kathleen Flynn, the sister of Birx's son in law. Birx later confirmed that she had travelled to the vacation home but refused to provide any other information surrounding the trip.

Birx joins a long list of health officials and elected representatives who have defied their own recommendations surrounding coronavirus, casting doubt on the efficacy of such restrictions.

Other members of this list include Austin Mayor Steve Adler who, in a Mayor Quimby-esque debacle, recommended citizens stay home and not gather in groups in a message broadcasted from a wedding celebration involving multiple households in Mexico.

California Governor Gavin Newsom also notoriously attended an indoor birthday dinner for a prominent Californian lobbyist at a lavish restaurant in Napa, California despite harsh restrictions placed upon businesses across the state and warnings against indoor gatherings. He is now facing a potential recall election which has gained steam since the controversy arose.
